Portrait of RyanAbout Ryan Spicer

Ryan Spicer is a filmmaker, web programmer, new-media artist and obsessive tinkerer currently based in Tempe, Arizona.  He currently works and studies as a research assistant in the Reflective Living research group within the Arts, Media and Engineering program at Arizona State University.  There, he combines his knowledge of film and video production and theory and computer software development to research and create new communications practices that encourage communication, mutual awareness and knowledge transfer among members of transdisciplinary teams.  Previously, Ryan studied film theory and production at Cornell University and worked in IT consulting.

When he escapes from the office, Ryan enjoys SCUBA diving, sailing, designing and building homebrew/diy electronics, 3d modeling/animation and photography.  If you want to pay him to develop electronic systems for use in underwater photography deployed from a sailboat in the Caribbean, he will be very happy.

His resume and CV are, of course, available for your perusal.

About Alterscapes

"Alterscapes" is a portemanteau of "alternate" and "landscapes" which Ryan invented long ago.  The term originally refered to his desire to build new worlds through film, video and computer animation.  The name does not, in fact, reference Arjun Appadurai's five dimensions of global culture.
